Abstrakty

Reasumując rozważania na temat rozwoju ruchu spółdzielczego w państwach EWG stwierdzić trzeba, że ruch ten stanowi wciąż liczący się element życia społeczno-ekonomicznego. Jest ruchem bardzo żywotnym, potrafiącym przystosować się do zmieniających się warunków. Służy interesom swoich członków na miarę możliwości stwarzanych przez realia społeczne i gospodarcze systemu kapitalistycznego. Jest ruchem w istocie swojej antymonopolistycznym, bardziej demokratycznym niż klasyczne kapitalistyczne organizacje gospodarcze. Łagodzi w pewnym stopniu sprzeczności rozwojowe kapitalizmu, lecz nie zmienia logiki rozwoju tego ustroju, sam bowiem tej logice jest podporządkowany.(fragment tekstu)

Co-operative movement in the countries of the European Common Market is a socio-economic movement which undergoes profound changes just like the whole economy of these countries. The purpose of the co-operative activity, i.e. defence and realisation of group and individual interests of the members, has not been changed and still constitutes the sense of the existence and the driving force of the co-operative development. The development of co-operative societies and the whole co-operative movement is characterized by an influence of general tendencies characteristic of all countries of the European Common Market. However, one observes a stronger and stronger national and local specific character. The development of co-operative societies is very strongly defined by the specific character of the branches of the national economy, where the co-operative societies operate. The greatest developmental difficulties in the countries of the European Common Market are experienced by the consumers' co-operative societies although they still gather the most numerous group of members. The consumers' co-operative societies do not keep pace with the changes in trade and its participation in the turnover of consumers' goods gets lower and lower. On the other hand, the co-operatives operating in the complex of food economy (agriculture) are economically the strongest sector of the co-operative movement. In the conditions where family households are the basis of agriculture, the development of co-operatives in the productive services, agricultural trade and especially in agricultural and consumers' processing industry finds a greater and greater justification in economic and social aspects. The production and services of co-operative societies, in turn, have still only a marginal economic significance and a big importance in the process of searching for a new, democratic model of an enterprise. The development of banking co-operatives is considerable, though very differentiated in particular countries of the European Common Market. So is the level and forms of development of other kinds of co-operative services such as housing, craftman's, merchant's. The co-operative movement is still a significant sector of the socio-economic life which is able to adapt itself to the changing conditions of development.(original abstract)
