The aim of this article is to construct a model that explains the probability that an economy will be caught in the middle income trap. The definitions of the phenomenon that function in the literature are reviewed and the theoretical and empirical research available in this area are analysed. This is followed by a presentation of the variables applied in the research, the methodology adopted for selecting the research sample, and the statistical tools used to achieve the aim of the article. In the next sub-chapter, the author presents and discusses the results of the model estimation. The results of the base model and three alternative models whose calculation is based on a modified database are presented. The estimation of each model was carried out by the logit and probit method. (original abstract)
