In recent years pension funds, insurance companies and investment funds have quickly grown in value, size and importance. Institutional investors have become fiduciaries for millions of people. As a result, they are now more active in influencing the governance of the companies in which they invest. Their involvement improves corporate performance and is a positive force for better corporate governance. (fragment of text)
