The text is devoted to the issue of Turkey as a country which is a regional power. The author traces the history of Turkey, and focused on the role of Turkey in the region after the Second World War. This country, after the accession to NATO strengthen its geopolitical position. Position increased, especially the army, which was for centuries one of the main forces in the country. At the end of the twentieth century military position slightly undermined but still army remains the guarantor of the unity of the Turkish state and combined with a rapidly growing economy, gives Turkey the rank of a regional power in the Middle East.
