The article offers a spatial analysis of structural pensions, one of the measures of the EU Rural Development Programme addressed to farmers of pre-retirement age (over 55) who have decided to pass their farmland to a successor or to another agricultural holding in order to enlarge it. An assessment is made of the impact of structural pensions on the agriculture of Wielkopolska Voivodship, including the demographic structure of farm users (the index: beneficiaries of the 'structural pensions' measure in the percentage of the total number of farm users of pre-retirement age) and on the size structure of individually held agricultural holdings (the index: mean area of farm handed over to enlarge another agricultural holding in comparison with mean farm area; total aver- age = 100 points). It was shown that the impact differed widely in spatial terms, while the rate of demographic and agrarian changes depended not only on the number and area of holdings participating in the measure, but also on the nature of the structures being modernised.(original abstract)
