W artykule dokonano krótkiej charakterystyki regionu, przedstawiono podstawy prawne, misję, cel ogólny i cele strategiczne Strategii Rozwoju Województwa Wielkopolskiego oraz założenia szczegółowej Strategii rozwoju rolnictwa i obszarów wiejskich województwa wielkopolskiego.

Wielkopolska Region is one of the largest regions in Poland. Both in terms of its surface and number of inhabitants, Wielkopolska is one of the leading regions in the country. This region leads also in field of farming efficiency. Arable land takes nearly 2/3 area of Wielkopolska. Significant number of the inhabitants live in the rural areas. In order to support a multifunction rural development there was worked out in year 2000 a Development Strategy of Rural Areas in Wielkopolska Region, which focuses on implementation of four general objectives. The first objective aims to secure possible highest life level of farmers and employees in food industry. The second objective aims to receive the possible highest level of technological and economical development of food industry. Next intention of the Strategy is to achieve a significant improvement of production potential and rise of inner integration of agricultural- and food sector. The fourth objective intends to adapt the potential and structure of the food industry to 21st century challenges and demands of integrating Europe. Development Strategy of Rural Areas in Wielkopolska Region is implemented by instruments of national policies, local administration, local communities, entrepreneurs and farmers. (original abstract)
