As research has produced conflicting results on the relationship between the employment form and life outcomes, it is important to examine the moderators of this link. In this article, we analyze the data of more than 4,000 working individuals of an international OECD survey and use the person-environment fit theory to test whether intrinsic and extrinsic work values have a differential effect on the subjective and eudaimonic well-being, and job satisfaction of organizational employees and self-employed individuals. We found that employees experience lower job satisfaction and well-being than self-employed adults but work values may narrow the gap. (original abstract)
