The social and economic developnent of the socialist countries, as well as the progress of international socialist integration, are predetermined by the quantitative and - most important - qualitative changes in production factors. In every social and economic system at all stages of economic development and particularly at the present stage of development of production forces, human factor has been playing the decisive role. In the process of socialist integration, it is indispensable to consider the significant diversification of particular socialist countries with respect to the level and structure of labour force. The complementary character of the CMEA countries from the viewpoint of labour has been the result of the diversification of these countries with respect to the quantity and quality of national labour force, demographic tendencies and policies, methods of resource utilization lextensive or intensive), the stock of capital, quotients of the technical equipment of labour, the mobility, of labour, etc. The rate and scope of the present co-operation of socialist countries, the necessary acceleration of the socialist integration process, require a much broader analysis of the demographic tendencies and regularaties occuring in the CMEA countries, the results of such analysis ought to serve as practical guidelines in the development of multilateral and bilateral co-operation between these countries.
