When thinking about desired development patterns for cities, we seem to encounter two main narratives, calling either to make cities more compact (to reduce urban sprawl) or to make cities greener. This paper explores this topic by evoking and combining some viewpoints present in recent debates over urban greenery and nature conservation. Although most of us are well familiar with the green compact city concept, approaching it as a solution for addressing climate change and species extinction challenges is still not too popular. By contrast, it is rather understood as improving certain rates of share of green spaces within the city's area, per square kilometer or per inhabitant. It is concluded here that studies on urban greenery and nature conservation - these probably not too obviously intersecting inputs - are complementary for a holistic implementation of the idea of a compact city.(original abstract)
Niniejszy artykuł zgłębia ten temat, przywołując i łącząc niektóre punkty widzenia obecne w ostatnich debatach na temat zieleni miejskiej i ochrony przyrody.
