Abstrakty

Uznając, że w Polsce istotne znaczenie dla dokonujących się w ostatnim okresie zmian demograficznych mają czynniki o charakterze strukturalnym określające poziom rozwoju ekonomicznego, porównano natężenie zachodzących procesów w zależności od poziomu intensywności przemian gospodarczych w różnych regionach. In Poland fertility differs remarkably by regions. The basie disparities are observed for urban and rural areas however, the differences by voivodships, the main administrative units, are also noticeable. The fertility decrease over the years 1989-1997 was not uniform for different regions. The article focuses on two possible determinants of both the fertility level and the pace of regional fertility changesover the period under consider- ation: a level of economic development of different regions, the intensity of transformation processes by regions. Fertility was described by the following variables: the total fertility ratę and the age-specific fertility rates for women at age 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, disaggregated by voivodship and urban/rural areas for 1989 and 1997. By use of the OECD typology 6 groups of voivodships were distinguished (less developed agricultural, developed agricultural less developed industrialised, developed industrialised, less developed diversified, developed diversified regions). Basic descriptive statistics for the distribution of fertility variables in 1989 and 1997 and results of the analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed the visible disparities in fertility patterns across 6 groups distinguished. The intensity of fertility decline differed widely by these groups which be- came morę homogenous in terms of fertility variables analysed. The type of a region seems to influence morę and morę fertility changes, especially for women aged 25-34 (original abstract)
