Work-life balance (WLB) has been in the spotlight of both researchers and executives over recent decades. Interest in work-life balance stems from an awareness of its positive effects-e.g., job satisfaction, life, career, well-being (Gropel, 2009; Vyas and Shrivastava, 2017). However, it is also a result of an understanding of the severity of the consequences of work-life imbalance-stress (Vyas and Shrivastava, 2017), reduced commitment to roles, and intention to leave work. The unexpected changes caused by COVID-19 have forced companies around the world to accelerate their transition to computerized business processes. The COVID-19 pandemic period undoubtedly posed challenges to organizations and employees, especially their ability to balance professional and non-work spheres of activity. With this in mind, the article characterizes the essence of work-life balance, identifies its determinants, and points out the consequences of work-life imbalance. The article also presents the results of a longitudinal empirical study conducted in the period before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic. (original abstract)
