Po upadku komunizmu, opartego na dogmacie rzekomej makro racjonalności gospodarczej, dla nikogo nie ulega dziś wątpliwości, że podstawą bogactwa i postępu, są sprawnie działające podmioty mikro-gospodarcze: przedsiębiorstwa. Podobne rozumowanie można też odnieść do organizacji, których nie przywykliśmy traktować jako gospodarcze: szkół, szpitali, muzeów, administracji publicznej itp. I tutaj sprawność poszczególnych mikro podmiotów decyduje o jakości życia. (fragment tekstu)

Analysis of the in-direct relationship between management practice and management theory is the main focus of this article. Author attempts to answer a basic question: "how can management theory contribute to the effectiveness of real-life organizations?". Empirically proven high degree of differentiation of performance of organizations operating in similar environments is the point of departure of authors reasoning. Performance differences are attributed to the quality of management. Quality of management is determined by quality of human resources and more precisely by skills and competencies of the organization members and people cooperating with it. Quality of human resources results in tum from education, training and management development. Institutionalized framework of management development includes such elements as: management education and training, consulting, research, expert institutions. Nonę of these can function normally without adequate input from management theory. Such a function of management theory enables the author to establish its unique identity. It has three dimensions: subject, method and criteria. Author supports the point that domestic potential in management has to be actively developed. Imports have several negative consequences indicated in the article. From this point of view Polish management theory is assessed.(original abstract)
