Employees' Age-Wage Profiles in Poland

This study is an analysis of factors determining the level of employees' wages outside agriculture. The outcome of the survey led to an estimation of econometric models in which the explanatory variable was the age logarithm. Apparently, the level of wages depends on such factors as education, age (in the form of a polynomial of the second degree) and married status. Statistically, no essential impact of such variables as the unemployment rate in the voivodeship of residence, size of town, or ownership sector was found. Age-wage profiles were delineated upon the basis of the constructed models. The shape of those profiles shown in pertinent literature (upwardly convex) proved to be characteristic only for women. In the case of men, the profiles indicate a growth with age. (original abstract)
