W artykule przedstawiono historię terminu „IV Rzeczpospolita” oraz koncepcję budowy IV RP. Zaprezentowano również polską tradycję posługiwania się terminami „Druga” czy „Trzecia” Rzeczpospolita oraz opinie na temat IV RP. Na koniec omówiono ideę oraz cele stworzenia „V RP”.

The term "the Fourth Republic of Poland" became a key term in public debate in Poland, among supporters and opponents alike. The article attempts to answer the question of whether there is justification for using the term, The opinion of constitutional lawyers is one-sided: so long as the constitution of the Third Republic is binding, Poland shall be called the Third Republic. It is nonetheless undeniable that a certain number and quality of changes, in the form of policies, has occurred and provoked discussion about which Republic we are now living in. The image of the Third Republic, though defended, has been irrevocably damaged. At the same time, the term "the Fourth Republic" has lost stock, even though political pragmatism has caused it to remain necessary. Discussion among supporters of "the Fourth Republic" concerns not so much a rejection of the idea, as ways that it can be realised. "The Fourth Republic" represents a transition period, though some nascent processes have created issues that have driven a wedge between the country and the Third Republic. "Given the inevitable" fall of the Third Republic, and problems with implementing the idea of "the Fourth Republic", some have called for the transition to be made, as it will prompt the rebuilding of politics not only as an important area of the public sphere but a vocation demanding proper qualifications, both intellectual and moral.
