Abstrakty

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie ekonomicznych i kulturowych czynników określających byt mniejszości niemieckiej w Wielkopolsce. Ukazano motywy napływu ludności niemieckiej do Poznania począwszy od XVIII w. Omówiono działania podejmowane przez Rząd Federalny RFN, organizacje ziomków i charytatywne z RFN, a także inicjatywy samych stowarzyszeń mniejszości niemieckiej w Wielkopolsce po 1989 r. zmierzające do polepszenia warunków bytowych i podniesienia poziomu życia tej grupy narodowej.

For many years the German minority in Greater Poland has been a subject of historical and sociological research. The research has mainly been concentrated on historical and sociological conditions of the existence of this ethnic group in the Polish society. Results of these studies, however, provide no ground for determination of the actual position of this group from the viewpoint of its material conditions, standard of living and the preferred lifestyle. Moreover, the lack of such data makes it impossible to carry out comparative analysis with the Polish society and other ethnic groups living in Greater Poland. The article in a synthetic way presents economic conditions which determined the standard of living of the German minority in Greater Poland before World War II and in the post-war period. The author also shows interdependencies between political activity in the bilateral Polish-German relations as well legislative activities of the Polish authorities and changes in material conditions of the German minority. The article is a contribution towards initiation of studies on economic and social status of the German minority in Greater Poland. (original abstract)
