Autorzy w oparciu o rocznik statystyczny Tajwanu przedstawiają sytuację ekonomiczną tego kraju na przestrzeni lat 1952-1987. Omawiają również czynniki decydujące o obecnej pozycji Tajwanu, jednego z tzw. azjatyckich tygrysów, i zastanawiają się czy droga rozwojowa Tajwanu nadaje się do powielenia w krajach Europy Wschodniej.

The paper is a presentation of the economic development of Taiwan in the years 1952-1987. This Asiatic country belongs to the newly industrialized countries of the 1st generation. The problem has been touched because of several reasons, first because in Poland there are but few publications on that subject, and second because of the achievements of that country in foreign trade. Beside the rate of economic growth, the structure of the national economy, especially the branch and line structure of industry, are shown. With regard to foreign trade, the commodity patterns of imports and exports are discussed in detail. The geographical range of Taiwan's foreign trade is also presented. Finally, the factors of Taiwan's economic growth are discussed. The state interference policy is stressed and, considering the economy, the aggressive pro-export policy is pointed out. The authors ponder whether the path of economic development of Taiwan can be followed by the East-European post-communist countries. (original abstract)
