Te drugie wynikają z różnorodnych potrzeb i preferencji turystów. Wśród map specjalistycznych można wyróżnić mapy przedstawiające zabytki materialne (czasami mapa obejmuje tylko określony rodzaj zabytków), miejsca ważnych wydarzeń historycznych, miejsca kultu religijnego, obiekty militarne, skanseny i inne atrakcje o charakterze etnograficznym, atrakcje warte odwiedzenia z powodu walorów kulinarnych itp. In cultural tourism, as is the case in most other types of tourism, we can see the growing role of maps and techniques that make up the so-called geovisualization. Maps primarily serve tourists in planning their trip, allow them to reach their destination, as well as allow them to navigate the area that is the purpose of the trip. In connection with various forms of cultural tourism, maps can be divided into a number of categories. First of all, generaltourist (sightseeing) maps and thematic (specialist) maps. The latter result from the diverse needs and preferences of tourists. Thematic maps include maps presenting material monuments (sometimes the map includes only a specific type of monuments), places of important historical events, museums, places of worship, castles, open-air museums and other ethnographic attractions, attractions worth visiting because of culinary values, etc. These maps may include whole countries, regions or spatial units of a lower order. Although maps showing cultural attractions have been published since the inception of modern tourism, its development and development of cartography have caused that the number of cultural cartographic publications in recent decades has increased significantly. This is the reason for the appearance of certain problems, as often maps for tourists interested in culture are issued by individuals and institutions that do not have adequate cartographic or even geographic preparation. In recent years, due to the rapid development of information technology, tourism is increasingly used methods referred to as geovisualization. Also, they have long been used in the presentation of objects and phenomena of interest to people cultivating cultural tourism, but the spread of computers, the emergence of the Internet and mobile applications meant that their importance in presenting attractions that may interest tourists has increased even more. In the article discussing maps useful for cultural tourism and geovisualizations, the concept of G. F. McCleary Jr. was used. This author istinguished several situations in which tourists use maps: (1) anticipation stage, (2) planning stage, (3) travel-to stage), (4) on-site activity stage, (5) travel-from stage and (6) recollection stage. The analysis shows that at various stages of the described process tourists use different types of maps and geovisualisation methods. The conclusion was expressed that although geovisualisation techniques (including mobile applications for smartphones) are gaining more and more popularity among travellers interested in cultural tourism, the maps still have their usefulness. Among other things, because of errors that are made when writing mobile application programs and the phenomenon of so-called neocartography, in which the drawing up of maps are often dealt with by dilettants in the field of tourism cartography.
