The article includes a review of research on accounting fraud manipulation. It describes symptoms of accounting manipulations identified in the literature. The article defines accounting manipulations as deliberate infringement of regulations and breach of accounting principles in order to obtain particular benefits. The identification of the occurrence of manipulation factors allows only for making the researcher sensitive to untypical situations. The aim of the article is to present the achievement so far in the area of distinguishing the factors which inform about the probability of manipulation in financial reports including the examples of research on including these factors as independent variables in statistical models. The article is based on critical analysis of the literature of the examined period. The study indicates that the relations described by a model may be true only with regard to the examined sample and only in the examined time; this means difficulty in direct application of these models in other countries and in a different period of time.
