Abstrakty

Growing access to information and sophisticated IT applications available and used to gather and disseminate knowledge force universities - considered as traditional centres of education - to revise their strategies. One of the drivers for change is growing share of in-company education and training. The aim of the article is to determine the position held by corporations in the education market (mainly in the USA) and to identify other initiatives undertaken by corporations in this market. The article is addressing the question to what extent corporations may become universities' competitors. ScienceDirect and EBSCO databases were used as well as relevant information available from various web pages. The article does not aspire to be an in-depth analysis of the problem at hand but is aimed at inspiration for further reflection on the changing role of universities in today's world.
