Abstrakty

Niekorzystny wpływ działalności turystycznej na środowisko naturalne został stwierdzony naukowo. Zasady ekoturystyki, zwanej także turystyką zrównoważoną, zostały sformułowane dopiero w latach dziewięćdziesiątych XX wieku. W artykule zaprezentowano główne przesłanki turystyki ekologicznej, omówiono eko-certyfikarty jako przykład inicjatywy wspierającej turystykę ekologiczną, a także przedstawiono inne działania pośrednio wspierające ekoturystykę.

The article discusses the premises of ecological tourism, undertakings that promote this form of tourist activity and the prospects for its development. The first part, well-grounded in the literature of the subject, offers a theoretical background, placing ecological tourism into the context of sustainable development. A special emphasis is laid on the high-level initiatives that led to the formation of that concept. The article accentuates a shift in societal attitudes towards environmental protection and shows how the relationship between tourism and nature has evolved. The following section focuses on the main premises of ecological tourism and highlights the problem of "consumptive/non-consumptive" dichotomy. Later the EU initiatives promoting ecological tourism and the raison d'ętre of the EU Flower eco certificate are discussed. Finally, while underscoring Europeans' growing ecological awareness, the authors provide a round-up and consider the prospects for the development of ecological tourism. (original abstract)
