Abstrakty

Autor artykułu rozważa zastosowanie odpowiedniej metodologii badań w celu analizy tak złożonego zagadnienia badawczego jakim są regiony. Jednym z proponowanych rozwiązań jest zastosowanie dedukcyjnego podejścia badawczego wspartego metodą systemową (jako główną metodą analizy). Przedstawiono specyfikę metody systemowej oraz wskazano pomocnicze metody badawcze.

Europe's regions constitute a very intriguing area of study. Political science is interested in the constitutional position of regions within a given state and their status in the process of European integration. Analyses conducted by academics seek to capture political, economic and social problems related to the existence of territorial units in the space of the nation-state and in the European Union. Scholarly analysis of regional issues is a task requiring the academic to apply an interdisciplinary approach and use appropriate methodological skills. The complex nature of regional issues calls for the use of several research methods: the main method and auxiliary ones. The systems method could be the basic method of analyzing and interpreting data in the filed of regional issues. Firstly, it facilitates the construction of an appropriate conceptual model for the analysis of phenomena and the definition of the general framework of the research process. Among the auxiliary methods the following would come in handy: case studies, the comparative method and the SWOT analysis. The use of multifarious research methods is the foundation for producing a complex political synthesis of the regions' status in the European integration process.(original abstract)
