Autor omówił przebieg procesów inflacyjnych w latach 1989-1994, ich uwarunkowania, a także przedstawił prognozę trendów inflacyjnych na poszczególne miesiące 1996 roku na podstawie analizy szeregów czasowych wskaźnika wzrostu cen detalicznych towarów i usług.

The commencement of the process of transformation of the country's economic system has shown and intensified many negative occurrences in Poland's economy. Amongst them the main relates to inflation which poses a considerable threat to the process of macroeconomic reproduction. Relying on an analysis of the statistical data the author points out the main conditions underlying the inflationary processes in Poland in the period between 1989-1994. He stresses the role of the negative influences which were inherent in the command economy and which lead to a rapid increase in the inflation rate in the initial stages of the transformation. Amongst them he draws particular attention to the inadequate method of pricing (prices imposed administratively), the existence of shortages on the commodity market which lead to enforced savings by households, and strong monopolization of the economy. Amongst the main sources of inflationary pressures which were the later stage of the transformation process, the author identifies cost-related factors both of exogenous character (adjustment the prices of basic energy sources and imports of raw material and necessary components) as well as endogenous (excessive increase of minimal wage), and, finally, monetary factors (e.g. financing the budget deficit). The analysis performed by the author justifies the claim that Poland's inflation is of inert character and is additionally strengthened by inflationary expectations. The paper also contains a prediction of the possible variations of inflationary trends over the months of 1996 which has been carried out on the basis of time sequences. (original abstract)
