The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate principal subjects of discussion taking place in the United States about institutional and substantive shape of American monetary policy in the context of evaluation of causes, course and effects of current financial crisis. Fundamental part of the paper is based on bills heading towards substantial changes of rules governing activities of the Federal Reserve System of the United States and introduced in the House of Representatives and the Senate from January the lst, 2007 to January the 31st,2010. The main sources of data arę the Library of Congress and the Government Printing Office. Among reviewed legislative activities of the Congress, the most significant proves to be a bili to include the Federal Reserve System into scope of external audit. The bili does not contravene present regulations of the Federal Reserye Act, nevertheless gives to the Congress important means to influence activities of the central bank and its monetary policy.
