Abstrakty

Artykuł powstał na bazie doświadczeń uzyskanych w Grand Valley State University (GVSU) w toku wykładów w semestrze zimowym 1994 r. Zarówno infrastruktura techniczna, jak i rozwiązania informatyczne oraz poziom ich wykorzystania w GVSU może być uznany za typowy dla uniwersytetów amerykańskich. Konstatacja, że w wyniku olbrzymich inwestycji na przestrzeni kilku ostatnich lat baza techniczna polskich uczelni, poza charakterystykami ilościowymi, nie odbiega w kategoriach funkcjonalnych od realiów szkoły amerykańskiej, a rażące dysproporcje wykazuje poziom wykorzystania możliwości, była bezpośrednią inspiracją powstania tego artykułu. W tym kontekście, jego podstawową intencją jest przyczynienie się do zdynamizowania tempa procesu wdrażania w polskich szkołach i placówkach dydaktycznych rozwiązań zweryfikowanych gdzie indziej. Doświadczenia wyniesione z GVSU dowodzą bowiem, że usługi komunikacyjne dostępne w sieciach komputerowych w Polsce na aktualnym szczeblu ich rozwoju mogą w istotny sposób zarówno usprawnić proces dydaktyczny, uczynić go łatwiejszym w administrowaniu, a co najważniejsze, dobrze przygotować absolwenta uczelni do prawidłowego funkcjonowania w coraz bardziej zinformatyzowanym społeczeństwie. In the article the author draws upon his experience gained in the Grand Valley State University (GVSU) in the course of lectures in the winter semester of 1994. Both the technological infrastructure and computer solutions and the intensity of their use in the GVSU may be considered as typical for American universities. The author arrives at a conclusion that due to great investments in the last few years the technological base of Polish universities, with the exception of the quantitative aspect, in functional terms, does not lag behind American schools; there is however a striking contrast as regards the intensity of use of the existing base. These observations have actually inspired the author to write the present article. Its main goal is to contribute to increasing the pace of the process of implementation in Polish schools and teaching institutions solutions that have been proved effective elsewhere. The experience gained in the GVSU demonstrates that information services available in computer networks in Poland at the present level of their development may significantly improve the teaching process, can facilitate its administration, and, most importantly, prepare graduates for a better functioning in the society in which computers play an ever increasing role.(original abstract)
