Autorzy koncentrują się na ewolucji etyki zawodu menedżera, który w ciągu historycznym przybierał formy: kupiec, przedsiębiorca-producent, menedżer. W krajach rozwiniętych etyka zawodowa menedżera skupia się przede wszystkim na relacji pomiędzy menedżerem a podwładnym pracownikiem. Autorzy przedstawiają koncepcję etyki w przedsiębiorstwie oraz postulują konieczność stosowania jej norm w praktyce menedżerskiej.
In Western Europe the evolution of manager's job from trader trough manufacturer to nowaday manager was natural. Professional ethics of those jobs have changed social and economical environment of European business. Managers in Poland have worked for 50 years in state enterprises under ideological and political pressure of communist goverment. They were rather clerks than managers. Now, after political changes in Poland, our managers have a chance to create by themselves ethical rules of the job, i.e. to decide what must or must not be done for the job prosperity. They have an opportunity to change the business environment at last. In the first part of the paper authors describe the moral commandments professed by Western Europe traders and manufacturers, what have changed social and economical environment of business in Western Europe. The differences between Western and Eastern business environment have to be taken into account in professional ethics of our managers. In the second part of the paper authors present the main ethical principles of the manager's profession in Western Europe, strictly connescted with relation between manager and his subodinate. Those principles create new management style, called "soft management". (original abstract)
