Public Transport in Urban Agglomerations of Slovakia

Abstrakty
W opracowaniu dokonano charakterystyki zbiorowego przewozu osób komunikacją miejską w największych miastach Słowacji (Bratysława, Koszyce, Preszów, Żylina). Komunikacja miejska w tych aglomeracjach jest realizowana przez samodzielne przedsiębiorstwa komunikacji miejskiej; z punktu widzenia własności są to zakłady budżetowe, spółki akcyjne gminy lub przedsiębiorstwa państwowe.
In the article municipal transport in urban agglomerations of Slovakia is presented. According to its organization it can be divided into two basic groups: 1) in smaller towns (up to approx. 50 000 inhabitants) it is realized by enterprises of the Slovak Bus Service (SAD); these enterprises are mostly state-owned and apart from transport, they realize regular commuter inland transport, as well as irregular transport services. 2) in bigger towns (Bratyslawa, Koszyce, Preszów, Żylina) municipal transport is realized by independent town transport enterprises. From the point of view of ownership, they are budgetary enterprises, commune's joint stock companies or state-owned enterprises. Contemporary development of municipal transport in Slovakia takes into consideration energy and ecological aspects in the first place. It tends towards the renaissance of the electric traction in the form of both tram and trolley bus services. In some of the towns of Slovakia buses with gas-driven engines are exploited.
