W artykule przedstawiono wady stosowanej od lat tradycyjnej koncepcj monopolu naturalnego oraz zweryfikowano klasyczne poglądy na istnienie monopolu naturalnego wobec współczesnych przemian gospodarczych i technologicznych.
In the world economy of sixties, seventies and eighties, monopoly had become the most powerful engine to progress and in particular of the long - run expansion of production mainly in infrastructure sectors. In the same time government regulation and control policy towards giants business had been very successful. World economy of nineties and at the start of the new millennium is changing, also taking into account the structure of competition and the role and position of former monopolists. The presented article is a unique trial of summarising different economic opinions on Natural Monopoly. In traditional economic theory the thesis about efficiency of natural monopol is very well known and proved. When representatives of classical economics treat pure monopoly as an ineffective business, the same economists can forgive natural monopolisation of some industries. The first part of the article presents theoretical basis of natural monopoly theory such as "economics of scale", "minimum efficient scale" and "experience curve". On that foundations author shows her personal view on efficiency of natural monopoly in contemporary economy. Finally author presents a revision of concept of natural monopolisation using arguments about globalisation and its impact on MES. (original abstract)
