About Some Problems Concern the Currency Exchange Risk Management in the Commercial Bank

Abstrakty
W artykule zaprezentowano problemy, które są przyczyną zwiększania ryzyka kursu walutowego w bankach. Są to: problem korelacji między zmiennością walorów wchodzących w skład portfela, problem zmienności walorów, problem tzw. pozycji globalnej.
In this article the author shows some problems concerning the currency exchange risk management in the commercial bank. The problems refer to the measuring of the potential level of the currency exchange risk. There are three examples in this article showing that some cases are not as obvious as one expects, The author points that the currency exchange risk managers should use the new econometrics models to measure the volatility and the correlation between the elements of the currency portfolio. These new models give the better results and may predict the volatility of the whole portfolio with better precision. In the further part of this article there is showed the EWMA (Exponential Weighted Moving Average) model of the JP Morgan Bank that may be used to predict the correlation and the volatility. The last problem that is showed in this article concerns the "Global Position". This is one of the biggest mistakes when the currency exchange risk managers suppose that the Global Position equal to zero is the best one. In some cases the Global Position not equal to zero gives the lower risk and it depends on the correlation between the currencies.(original abstract)
