Artykuł dotyczy problematyki determinacji zjawisk społecznych. Zagadnienie to zostało przedstawione według wykładni poznańskiej szkoły metodologicznej, mając na uwadze dorobek naukowy J. Kmity, L. Nowaka, J. Topolskiego i J. Sucha.

The article contains reflections on the determination of social phenomena which refer to the formative aspect of the history of human societes and are treated in a model way. Traditionally, causality is identified with determinism. The Poznań methodological school has a different view in this case becouse it connects causality with nomothetic notion. Among many other forms of determination distinguished by this school and used in the study on the social history, the functional and genetic determination and adaptation determination are of great importance. Both of them have been critically analyzed in the article.(original abstract)
