Employment of Old Age Pensioners in the Private Sector - the Łódź Economy Example

Artykuł zawiera wyniki badań przeprowadzonych w latach 1989,1991 i 1994 w województwie łódzkim, dotyczące zatrudniania emerytów i rencistów w sektorze prywatnym.
The transition of the Polish economy to a market system provided retired persons with greater job opportunities in the private sector. Traditional work places of retirees in large public companies disappeared together with their liquidation. The analyses made indicate that retirees were and still are a relatively stable element of the labour supply. They are able to compete for vacant jobs with younger persons even when unemployment is high, which favourably discloses their entrepreneurship and the efficiency of their labour. By working they could earn income lower than half of the average pay in the economy of Łódź. The relatively small share of the old age and disability pensioners employed part time (4,6 procent of the employed) confirms the fact that among all persons belonging to this category there exists a group of persons who, by taking jobs, decided to improve their living standard on their own.
