The criteria of Copenhagen and their implementation in the Republic of Slovakia in years 1994-1998 are discussed. The article also describes the political situation of Slovakia in 1998, when the first elections to the Parliament were held, the changes which occured after that, and the expectations and problems concerned with the EU' enlargement.(MN)
