Abstrakty

Autorka próbuje opisać problemy związane z komputeryzacją polskich przedsiębiorstw. Analiza oparta jest na rezultatach badań przeprowadzonych w 1997 roku w trzech wybranych sektorach przemysłu: górnictwa i węgla kamiennego, żelaza i stali, przemysłu motoryzacyjnego. Celem badań było opisanie zarówno w aspekcie ilościowym jak i jakościowym użyteczności (poziomu) technologii informatycznych w polskim przemyśle. Próbowano zidentyfikować bariery efektywnego użytkowania aplikacji sieciowych w przemyśle (e-mail, EDI, bazy danych, systemów wspierających zarządzanie). Perspektywa integracji Polski z UE oznacza dostęp do europejskich sieci informatycznych pociągając za sobą związane z tym zagrożenia i korzyści.

This article attempts to describe the problems associated with the computerisation of Polish enterprises. The analysis is based on the results of research carried out in 1997 in three selected industrial sectors: hard coal mining, iron and steel, and the motor industry. The aim of the research was to describe, in quantitative and qualitative terms, the use of information technologies in Polish industry. An attempt was made to identify the barriers to the effective use of network applications (e.g., e-mail, EDI, databases, management support systems) in industry, and to categorise these barriers. The research confirmed the commonly held view that an information technology infrastructure and network access are necessary conditions for participation in the Information Society. This equally applies to Polish enterprises, but there are also other, more important barriers to the development of information technology that are unique to Polish industry. With regard to the introduction of information technologies in enterprises, an undoubtedly important role is played, on the one hand, by the qualifications of computer personnel and, on the other, by managers' awareness. Enterprises managements most frequently point to insufficient financial resources as the main barrier to introducing new technologies. However, this fact alone does not block the computerisation process: it rather leads to cheaper solutions being chosen. Moreover, there are also legal, institutional and economic factors that influence the development of information technologies in industry. Particularly in recent years, the debate in Poland on the development of Information Society is part of a wider debate on the prospects for the country's entry into the European Union.Clearly, Poland's integration with the European Union also implies entry into European computer networks, which entails both benefits and dangers.
