EN
The article presents a cognitive model of empowerment, in which empowerment is defined as icreased intrinsic task motivation. The subsequent model identifies four cognitions (task assements) as the basis for worker empowerment: sense of impact, competence, meaningfulness, and choice. Adopting an interpretive perspective (interpretative styles; attributing, envisioning, and evaluating), we have used the model also to describe cognitive processes through which workers reach these conlusion. Interventions refer to deliberate attempts to produce empowerment through changes in environmental events that impinge on individuals or through changes in these individuals' manner of interpreting these events. Both preliminary evidence for the model and implications for research are discussed. (original abstract)
