Abstrakty

Wzrost rynku kapitałowego w ostatnich latach otworzył możliwość zwiększenia inwestowania. Celem artykułu było ukazanie przesłanek i możliwości jakie otwierają się przed bankami chcącymi inwestować na własny rachunek w rynek papierów wartościowych. Autor przedstawił główne cechy determinujące wybór strategii inwestycyjnej.

The growth of the capital markets over the recent years has opened room for parties keen either to invest or raise capital on the market. Consequently, banks' approach to the management of surplus funds has undergone a change. Many banks move away from their traditional operations involving loan granting and deposit taking to aggressive investment in the securities markets characterised by high risk and liquidity fluctuations. The author's objective is to highlight the premises and possibilities open to banks keen to invest on their own account on the securities market and to provide a feature of factors determining the selection of investment strategies. An analysis of the factors which affect banks' investment decisions constitutes the basis for the creation of methods and strategies aiming at minimising threats and dangers inherent in securities trading. The methods and strategies described in the paper are not only based on investor's needs and expectations but also take stock of accounting and financial indicators of a given bank. Equally important are indicators of the situation for securities either held by the bank or forming its potential portfolio. A lack of full assessment of a given investment provides premises for the design of mixed methods and strategies based on empirical research and capable of balancing risk, on the one hand, and effectiveness of investment, on the other.
