Omówiono sfery aktywności gospodarczej, ekologicznej i demograficzno-kulturowej obszarów wiejskich. Zdefiniowano stare i nowe funkcje rolnictwa oraz cele strategiczne rozwoju Małopolski, a także nakreślono kierunki ich realizacji.

Considering the needs of multifunctional utilization of resources autor of this article pointed out the main functions of the rural areas, such as: economic, ecological, demographic-kultural and their particular elements. He showed also that basides the present functions, such as production of foods and resources for industry should be under taken and realized the new functions concerning the protection of environment, information of landscape and production of natural (restored) energy. The farmer should be not only a producent but also manager of the resources. It was traced out the main goal of strategic development of Małopolska in frame which be outlined essential directions of activity to induce the economic development of this region.
