Abstrakty

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki przekształceń sektora bankowego w Polsce w okresie od 1989 do 1997 roku. Omówiono proces prywatyzacji banków oraz problem konsolidacji w sektorze bankowym. Zaprezentowano także sytuację finansową banków w latach dziewięćdziesiątych i scharakteryzowano przyszłość polskiego systemu bankowego.

The competitiveness of companies operating within a market economy is determined by their size of capital. One of the more important sources of financing the current and developmental operations of enterprises is capital from the banking sector. However, due to the state of this sector in Poland, it is not able to meet the needs of company managers. For this reason, there is a need to begin work on the restructuring of the Polish banking sector,which will have implications for the whole economy as regards: improving the way banks operate through better resource allocation, improving the structure of capital, changes on the labour market, access to new capital and technologies, a decrease in political pressures that force banks to grant credit to ineffective enterprises. In this article, the authors describe the transformations that took place in the Polish banking sector after 1989, and identify the changes that should occur in the near future if the Polish banking system is to adjust fully to European Union Requirements.
