Transfer of Inorganic Substances from the Sugar Beet Tissue to the Liquid Phase During the Model Process of the Counter-Current Extraction

Abstrakty
The paper describes a study on counter-current extraction of sugar beet slices ("cossettes") by mean of distilled water. The correlation of extraction ratę between sucrose and mineral substances (Na, K, Ca+Mg) was investigated. The experiments have shown that the extraction rate of these substances was al-ways less than the rate of sucrose extraction, independently of the contact time of solid (cossettes) and liquid (extraction solvent) phases as well as independently of the amount of solvent used. In the case of Na and K the proportion was ca 77%, by Ca+Mg less than 50%, assuming 100% for the sucrose mass. When ca 80% of sucrose was extracted from the cossettes a rapid rise in the following quotient was observed: the mass of mineral substances to the mass of sucrose in the exhausted cossettes. It suggests a stronger binding between the beet tissue and the mineral substances not extracted previously. (oryg. streszcz.)
