Abstrakty

W opracowaniu przedstawiono stan polskiego sektora bankowego na koniec pierwszego półrocza 1999 roku. Przeprowadzona analiza wskazała na czynności mające wpływ na dalszy rozwój sektora bankowego: procesy konsolidacyjne, zmiana struktury własnościowej banków komercyjnych, większy stopień koncentracji sektora bankowego i inne.

In connection with the prospective integration into the European Union, Polish banks are faced with more and more intense competition, both on the part of pro-bank and non-bank institutions and foreign banks. In the first part of the paper statistical data are presented. They illustrate the present situation (until mid-1999) of the Polish bank sector and the tendencies which showed up in the last decade pf the 20th century. Later on a comparative analysis of the Polish bank sector against the background of the EU countries is made and conclusions regarding chances and dangers that the Polish bank sectors is faced with, in connection with the perspective integration into the European Union, are formulated. In conclusion, it has been stated that the main adjustment processes, aimed at meeting the requirements of the European Union, manifest themselves in more and more effective activities of banks as regards the restructuring, consolidation and marketing.
