Lata 1972-1978 to okres rozwoju wzajemnych stosunków gospodarczych, głównie wymiany handlowej między Japonią a Chinami. Artykuł jest próbą opisu krótkiego okresu czasu w relacjach gospodarczych między tymi krajami.

The present article attempts to bring a short but significant period in economic relations between Japan and the Chinese People`s Republic into focus. The period is distinguished on the one hand by the more tumultuous growth in economic relations compared to the preceding period, made possible by the restoration of normal diplomatic relations in 1972, and of the other by its distinctiveness from what followed after 1978. Cooperation in areas such as inter-governmental technical projects, the extension by the Japanese government of Yen credits, loans from the Japanese Import-Export Bank for the exploitation of natural resources, and direct investments made by Japanese firms, began only in 1979. Between 1972 and 1978, economic relations between the two countries would have developed more rapidly but for the fact that China still did not have a market economy. This, however, does not diminish the significance of these economic relations, as the period in question formed a sound platform for Sino-Japanese economic cooperation in subsequent years.(short original abstract)
