Autor w swojej pracy podjął próbę ukazania pierwotnego związku pomiędzy cyklem życia produktu a metodą portfelową w zarządzaniu przedsiębiorstwem.

In the literature describing the various techniques of the portfolio analysis, one encounters references to the life cycle concept as a variable describing the spatial dimensions of the method's mutability. In fact, many publications point to the life cycle theory as the methodological foundation of the portfolio analysis and make extensive use of it as a basis for description and discussion. The article takes issue with issue with this and attempts to show the primary connection between the product life cycle concept and the portfolio analysis in the management of a firm. Furthermore, it charts the appearance of variations on the portfolio analysis - in both theory and practice - that are the consequence of this primary connection. (original abstract)
