W tradycyjnej statystyce zakłada się, że podejmowane decyzje oparte są na sprecyzowanych dokładnie danych (crisp data). Jeśli dane są nieprecyzyjne lub gdy hipoteza, choć oparta na precyzyjnych danych, dopuszcza niedokładnie określone parametry, to taka sytuacja ukierunkowuje postępowanie na idee teorii zbiorów rozmytych i zastosowanie proponowanych tam pojęć i metod. W 1996 roku Arnold zajął się rozmytymi hipotezami przy dokładnych danych. Ideę tę podjęli Taheri i Behboodian w 1999 r. Proponując nowe definicje hipotezy zerowej oraz prawdopodobieństwa błędów I i II rodzaju. Na tej podstawie przedstawili oni swoje sformułowanie Lematu Neymana-Pearsona. W prezentowanym opracowaniu przedstawiono oba ujęcia, a następnie pokazano na własnych przykładach różnice wynikające z ujęcia klasycznego i rozmytego.
In traditional statistics one assumes that the decisions taken are based on precisely defined data. If the data are not precise, or if the hypothesis, although based on precise data allows inaccurately defined parameters, then the fuzzy set theory and the applications of its methods makes it possible to obtain results adequately describing reality. Only recently, in 1996, Arnold addressed the problem of fuzzy hypothesis with precise data. The idea was taken up by Taheri and Behboodian in 1999, who extended the problem by proposing new definitions of the fuzzy hypothesis and of the probability of errors of the first and second kind. On this basis they presented their formulation of the Neyman-Pearson lemma. In this paper the essential ideas of both works are presented with emphasis mainly on the examples illustrating the theory and on the comparison between classical and fuzzy methods of testing hypotheses which demonstrates the advantages of the latter.
