The Importance of the Information Included on the Food Packaging in the Behaviour of Consumers Living in Świętokrzyskie Province

Abstrakty
W artykule omówiono wyniki badań dotyczących funkcji informacyjnej opakowania produktów żywnościowych. Najważniejszą, według badanych, informacją na opakowaniu tego typu produktów jest termin przydatności do spożycia oraz wartość odżywcza produktu.
As the results of research show one of the important f actors having impact on consumer behaviour on the food market are the information whose source one could divide on formal and informal. Among formal sources one distinguishes the information on the products packages. To verify the importance of the information placed on the food package there was a survey conducted in January and February 2004 among 520 inhabitants in Świętokrzyskie Province living as well in rural as urban areas. As a result of the research one ascertained that consumers while doing food shopping pay particular attention to the date of durability and this type of behaviour was more often recorded among women and persons representing the higher level education. On the basis of research one can conclude that the date of durability is perceived as the most important information placed on the food packaging, prior than the price, the content of the product, the nutrition value, terms of the storage or the energy value. The information with the lowest importance was the brand of the product and the organic origin. (original abstract)
