Switzerland is one of the oldest and most prestigious tourist destinations in Europe and the world. Recently, however, fewer tourists are visiting Switzerland, and tourism issues in Switzerland are often ignored in studies and comparative analyses. The accession of ten new countries to the EU is welcomed with optimism among the Swiss people, and the 75 million potential new customers is definitely a great challenge to the Swiss economy. It is estimated that thanks to this access, Swiss GDP will grow between 1-2 billion CHF annually. The aim of this article is to analyse how EU enlargement may affect the development oí" tourism in Switzerland. (original abstract)
