Abstrakty

Zdaniem autora w Europie Wschodniej zachodzą poważne zmiany, które mogą zaszkodzić zarówno bezpieczeństwu europejskiemu, jak i interesom Stanów Zjednoczonych. Rozszerzenie NATO i Unii Europejskiej miało utrwalić reformy polityczne i ekonomiczne w regionie wschodnioeuropejskim oraz pomóc w jego integracji z Zachodem. Jednak niedawny wzrost sił nacjonalistycznych i populistycznych w niektórych krajach tego regionu grozi jego zdaniem ograniczeniem procesu reform. Zmęczenie państw UE rozszerzeniem oraz rosnąca liczba apeli o protekcjonizm, mogą utrudnić dalsze działania na rzecz utworzenia jednolitego rynku europejskiego i pełnej integracji nowych członków w Unii.
