Abstrakty
Jedną z najważniejszych funkcji, jakie mają do spełnienia instytucje finansowe jest pośrednictwo finansowe. Dlatego celem niniejszych rozważań będzie przedstawienie głównych nurtów refleksji teoretycznej mającej za przedmiot uzasadnienie istnienia banków jako pośredników finansowych w gospodarce. Wymieniono trzy alternatywne paradygmaty badania sektora bankowego; podejście instytucjonalne (the industrial organization approach to banks), paradygmat niepełnej informacji (the incomplete information paradigm) i podejście najnowsze pokazujące szczególne znaczenie banków w radzeniu sobie z ryzykiem występującym w gospodarce.
