Growing competition on the market and increasingly demanding buyers have forced companies to innovate, in particular to pursue technical innovation. Thus, the innovation activity of enterprises is increasing, which in turn leads to an increase in the level of innovation in the national economy as a whole. Technology transfer contributes to increasing the innovation of the economy by driving innovation or being a result of innovation. This is because innovative and technology transfer processes are closely linked. In developed market economies there is a widespread conviction - and, increasingly, also amongst managers in Poland - that the ability of enterprises to create and absorb innovation is one of the most important manifestations of their modernity, effectiveness, and productivity. Thus, innovation, technology transfer, and broadly understood technical progress are currently viewed as the basic factors of enterprise development that lead to endowing the market with new, high-quality products and services and lead to organisational transformation within and outside the enterprise. The purpose of this article is to analyse the organisation and process of technology transfer on the international scale and the resulting possibilities of adapting this to Polish conditions. The author also draws attention to the assumptions and rules of participating in the technology transfer process that have been tested in highly economically developed countries, as well as to solutions used to stimulate the transfer and commercialisation of technology. The observed rise in interest in innovations and technology transfer has led to the development of a specific institutional infrastructure that constitutes a bridge between academia and the economy. This is reflected in the triggering of innovative behaviour and the creation of conditions conducive to technical progress including, in particular, technology transfer. (original abstract)
