Multinational corporations are the dominant form of organization in the motor car industry and in the manufacturing of spare parts. The aim of this article is to compare the impact of the foreign direct investment carried out by multinational corporations has had on the motor car industry in three Central and East European countries (Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary). In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, the industry has been dominated by investment from the Volkswagen group and has led to the specialization of a group of sub-suppliers, who service the needs mainly of Volkswagen and Skoda factories. Thus, other automobile corporations might have experienced a certain barrier to entry into the market since this involved the creation of an entire logistics chain - often from scratch. These types of problems did not occur in Hungary, where, in terms of the differentiated product range, major European brands have been present from the outset, as has a smaller manufacturer from the Far East, namely, the Suzuki company. However, the motor car industry came to be very clearly concentrated in the central area of Hungary, in the immediate vicinity of the capital - Budapest. The transformations and huge growth in production in the motor car industry in Central and East European countries would not have been possible at all without the major capital involvement of multinational corporations operating in this sector; their presence on these markets is largely responsible for the nature of the changes that have occurred in the analyzed industry.
