Przedstawiono miejsce Polski w Europejskim Banku Inwestycyjnym w aspekcie finansowym oraz działalność Banku w Polsce. Omówiono korzyści jakie dzięki EBI może uzyskać nasz kraj.

Because of its competencies, EBI is the main source of non-budgetary funding of enterprises within European Communities and in third countries, and the paper is devoted to its analysis in the context of loans provided for economic transformation first, and then for improvement of Poland's convergence and competitiveness. The goal of the paper is to present Poland's position in EBI in financial and organisational aspect with regard to the Bank's activity in Poland and the benefits that can be achieved. It is pointed out that projects co-funded in Poland, with technical aid from EBI, in 1990-2004 enabled social and macroeconomic transformations in our economy, facilitating Poland's full integration with homogeneous EU market. At the moment one of EBI's important tasks is to provide financial measures needed to co-fund projects from structural funds and Cohesion Fund. In a long-term perspective activities supported by the Bank should push our country onto a path of stable and balanced development, resulting from - from one side - expansion of transportation infrastructure, efficient protection of environment and human resources, research, development of education services, and from the other side - improvement of Poland's attractiveness for foreign investors and its positive social and economic consequences. Since the 1st of May 2004, when Poland became a member of the Bank, apart from full access to funding, Poland acquired the right to form decisions in EBI's structures. One may not forget that, due to Accession Treaty, Poland has certain obligations for EBI, the most important being a regular transfer to the stock. (original abstract)
