The purpose of the empirical research presented in the article is diagnosis of the stochastic structure of qualitative business surveys indicators and selected macroeconomic indicators in order to establish the predictive capabilities of the former ones. The data set comprises time series on 15 variables from monthly business surveys (converted to the quarterly frequency) and 21 time series on macroeconomic indicators published by Central Statistical Office for the period 1995ql to 2004q4. The standard testing procedures, such as Augmented Dickey-Fuller, Leybourne and the HEGY tests were applied. The outcomes of the adopted procedures allow us to state that whereas the majority of macroeconomic quantitative data is stationary just the opposite applies to business survey data. The majority of business survey data is characterised by complicates stochastic structure, e.g. by nonstationarity with respect to long term and seasonal behaviour.(original abstract)
