In the face of world economy globalization and prevalent liberalization of production factor mobility, companies operating in international markets are forced not only to reduce their costs and improve the quality of products offered in local markets, but also develop the skill of creating and operating within varied business models. Such models offer cost reduction through selection of most suitable base of operation as well as improvement of individual company functions through proper division of added-value chains. Asian companies, despite their diversity, are characterized by respect for familiar and national obligations as well as strong attachment to Asian cultural values. This approach, while valid in the context of inefficient legal system and market dispersion typical of the early industrialization phase, may prove questionable in the face of market economy. Will the relation-based business network systems evolve towards contractual, more transparent agreements? The most evident change observed in the economic environment of Asia-Pacific region is the growing pro-market orientation. Asian governments explore the productivity boost potential offered by foreign technologies and seek ways to improve efficiency of local companies through competition with foreign producers. This aim is pursued by deregulation and privatization of local economies, intended to open local markets for global companies and international capital. (original abstract)
